Experience the wonder of slow travel

Carefully curated walking, scooter and bike self guided tours to experience hidden gems of Ballarat’s landscape, history, food and art.

A Slow Travel Guidebook

This beautifully created guidebook will guide you on your journey while you and your family/friends discover the hidden gems, beautiful scenery, experiences, and most unique food on our family friendly bike and walking self guided tours. QR codes will reveal rich storytelling behind the unique businesses, historical sites and culture. The guidebook will be updated every year to include different sponsors.

Beautifully curated slow travel experiences

These slow travel guides are designed for adventurous families, couples (30-40 y.o.), and Baby Boomers to discover little known tracks, history, cultural/art and food/dining experiences in the Ballarat region. We aim to develop 3-5 slow travel self guided tours.

Within the guidebook will be beautifully hand drawn maps, with a designated route that will incorporate local businesses, artists and history to enjoy along the way.

A GPS link will guide travellers on their journey, and QR codes and links will deepen the experience with videos, images and podcasts.

Experiences and businesses will be carefully curated for each route to ensure the best experience.

Sponsorship Opportunities
- 2022 Guidebook

A Hidden Lanes website will be established, and guidebooks (.pdf and paper) will be sold. Becoming a sponsor is a great way to be involved in the project and be seen by people from Ballarat, Regional Victoria and Melbourne. Sponsorship is for 1 year, guidebooks will be available for sale year-wide. It’s estimated 1,000-2,000 copies will be distributed (hardcopies and .pdf will be available). Sponsorship can be a combination of inkind and cash sponsorship. Social media promotion will be via various social media channels including Love, Ballarat. Please click on each package for more details, we are happy to tailor packages for you as well.

Opportunities For Businesses/Artists Included in the 2022 Guidebook

A Hidden Lanes website will be established, and guidebooks (.pdf and paper) will be sold. Please note, there is no cost involved in being part of the self guided tours, as we select and curate the tours. If you are included in the curated tour, there are some heavily discounted and valuable opportunities to tell your story more deeply within the guide and get video/images, (but they are in no way obligatory) and are only available for businesses, artists or organizations already included in a tour. They are for both free and paid listings, please register your business as soon as possible here (bottom of the page). Paid listings are limited to availability and space in the guidebook, please book early for this via this link.

Slow Travel Journeys - our inspiration creating a Slow Travel Guide for South Korea’s Jeju Island walking/cycling trail.

Jarrod and Emma, Hidden Lanes creators spent 9 years in South Korea, and during that time created video content and a slow travel guide to Korea’s Jeju Island. The journey was a walking or cycling route that included beautiful scenery, funky cafes, art galleries and nature. We even made a film about the journey, that was featured in the Korean Expat Film Festival and Berlin Bicycle Festival. This style of slow journeying includes meandering along laneways, taking your time to take photos, take in the scenery and buy local produce. We’re inspired to make something similar for Ballarat!
